The issue of “coverts” in the Congress took a new turn on Saturday with even Union minister of state for textiles Panabaka Lakshmi alleging that some leaders in the party were covertly working for the YSR Congress Party.
Backing the demand of Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao for holding a brainstorming session to distinguish party loyalists from betrayers, Lakshmi said at Bapatla in Guntur district on Saturday that the Congress state leadership should not fill nominated posts in the government till an action was initiated against pro-Jagan elements. “There are many coverts of Jagan in the Congress. Unless they are weeded out, the party cannot become strong,” she said and declared that she would bring the matter to the notice of the party high command.
Meanwhile, former state Youth Congress president TJR Sudhakar Babu, who had created the furore by alleging that some ministers were in touch with the YSRCP leadership, has decided to lodge a complaint with PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana against those leaders.
Sudhakar Babu, along with other YC leaders, met deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and discussed the issue with him.
