The mid-day meal in government schools often consists of rice, dal and vegetables. The students of Narayangar Raj Primary School in Paschim Medinipur of West Bengal requested the teachers to include chicken in the menu of mid-day meals. After numerous requests, the teachers of this school organised a special meal on the occasion of Teachers’ Day in which they served Pulao and Chicken Kasha to the students. The kids of the school organised a cultural program of dance, song and recitation.
Instead of the monotonous menu of dal and rice every day, the teachers of the school fed chicken kasha with Basanti Pulao to nearly a hundred students on Teacher’s Day. It is quite evident that royal food like Chicken Kasha is impossible to feed the students daily during this school’s mid-day meal. On certain days, the students requested the teachers to feed them something different. So their beloved teachers gave a surprise on the day of the teacher. The day started with the teachers’ day programs. It included programs like singing, dancing and fancy dress by the students. Several speeches were also given by the students for the teachers.
A teacher’s day celebration was held in this school. The students of this school participated in the event. Teachers highlight the significance of the day. Avar Vidyalaya Inspector Shankar Singh of Narayanagarh Chakra was also present at this occasion. Last year, the school authority started the tradition of serving chicken biryani to the students. This time it was Basanti Pulao and Chicken Kasha. The school believes in taking proper care of the students on occasions like Children’s Day and Teachers’ Day. The students were happy with the meal as they consumed it with joy on their faces.
While talking to Local18, Pranav Kumar Jana, principal of the school, said that including chicken in the mid-day meal is their initiative. It was started last year. To break the monotonous taste of everyday food, the school staff decided to serve chicken dishes. It is sponsored by the school with the financial contribution of teachers.
