The plight of Hindus in Bangladesh is expected to be on the agenda of discussion at the upcoming Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) coordination meeting in Kerala on Friday, marking an unusual inclusion of a foreign issue in the organisation’s deliberations. This deviation from the norm underscores the significance of the issue, as the Sangh Parivar’s seniors grapple with concerns over the safety and rights of Hindus in the neighbouring country.
The RSS, known for its focus on national issues primarily, seems to be making an exception this time, acknowledging the broader implications of cross-border religious persecution on the Hindu community. With around 50 key members of the Karyakarani Mandal (central committee) set to converge in Kerala’s Palakkad, the discussion and deliberations are likely to explore strategies for supporting Bangladeshi Hindus, said sources in the RSS ranks.
Hindus Under Siege in Bangladesh
A senior RSS functionary said that PM Modi has already spoken with the interim government and he is taking other necessary measures, but the world needs to see how Hindus are under siege in the neighbouring country. “The meeting’s agenda highlights the growing urgency within the Sangh to address this matter, reflect that our commitment to safeguarding Hindu interests go beyond India’s borders. As the leadership prepares to deliberate, the inclusion of this issue could signal a new phase in the RSS’s approach to foreign affairs, driven by its deep-rooted concern for Hindus worldwide,” said a senior RSS functionary
“Hindus are being assaulted in Bangladesh day in, day out since Sheikh Hasina’s government was ousted. Many of them tried to cross over, some waited near the border, but for international border rules they won’t be allowed across the border. This is the situation. We have to deliberate on these critical issues as well. We have to mobilise global support in favour of Hindus in Bangladesh. This is a very sensitive issue for us,” added the functionary.
Sangh-affiliated organisations have come together to organise a tribute program for the Hindus who were brutally killed during the recent rioting in Bangladesh on Friday. This gathering aims to honour the victims and bring attention to the ongoing persecution of minorities in the neighbouring country. The programme has been organised to highlight the growing concern within these groups about the safety and dignity of Hindus in Bangladesh, particularly in the face of escalating communal violence. Earlier, the RSS inspired organisations led a Nari Shakti march to protest the alleged sexual assaults on women in Bangladesh, highlighting the organisation’s intensified focus on issues of gender-based violence in the region.
