‘PhD Sabzi Wala’: Why This Ex-Punjabi University Professor Left His Job To Sell Vegetables
The 39-year-old worked as a contractual professor in the Law Department of Punjabi University for about 11 years.

Believe it or not, a man with four Master’s degrees and a PhD to his name, is now selling vegetables on the streets of Punjab to make his ends meet. Dr. Sandeep Singh was a contractual professor at Punjabi University in Patiala, however, he had to leave his job because of unfortunate circumstances.

The 39-year-old worked as a contractual professor in the Law Department of Punjabi University for about 11 years. With a PhD in Law, Singh has four Master’s degrees in subjects including Punjabi, Journalism and Political Science. What is interesting is that the professor, who now sells vegetables, is still pursuing studies.

The professor left his job after facing issues like salary cut and irregular pay. “For 11 years I also worked as a professor at Punjabi University, Patiala, but even because of all these years of hard work, the government did not approve me,” he said.

“I still want to work as a professor but the circumstances are not allowing,” he added. Singh is currently studying B.Lib and said that he will continue to study throughout his life.

Singh revealed that he earns more money by selling vegetables than he did as a professor. Describing his busy schedule, he said that after a full day of work, he goes back home and studies for his upcoming exam.

The ex-professor goes home to home every day to sell vegetables on his cart. Interestingly, a board on his cart says, “PhD Sabzi Wala”.

While Singh left his job as a professor, he has yet not given up on his passion for teaching. He switched his job to a vegetable vendor so that he can save money and open his own tuition centre one day.
