HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday said the government was committed to the welfare of police personnel.It would fill 22,000 posts soon to further strengthen the Police Department.About 1.16 lakh posts in various government departments would be filled by the end of December, he said.In his message on the eve of Police Commemoration Day, the chief minister said the government would combat extremism in the state from socio-economic angle instead of treating it as a law and order problem.Efforts are being made to develop basic infrastructure in Maoist affected areas.Already several development works were taken up in Maoist-affected areas in the state under the Left Wing Extremism Scheme.Kiran Kumar further said the government would suppress extremism, terrorism, white collar crime and antisocial activities with an iron hand.Emphasis would be laid on effective maintenance of law and order, he said.The chief minister will take part in the Police Commemoration Day programme at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial in Goshamahal Stadium at 6.10 am on Friday.
