New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has agreed to pay a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh from February 19, when he would lay the foundation stone for the first airport project in the state and inaugurate a major bridge over the Lohit river.
It was decided when Arunachal Chief Minister Gegong Apang met the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday that the PM would be the chief guest of Statehood Day celebration in Itanagar during the visit.
The two leaders also discussed several important issues relating to internal and external security and development projects in Arunachal Pradesh.
Thanking the Prime Minister for giving a go-ahead to seven strategic road projects in the state, Apang expressed his gratitude to the Centre for facilitating the passage of the Rajiv Gandhi Central University Bill in the just concluded winter session of Parliament.
Apang also requested the Centre to allocate more developmental projects for the border areas, a state government spokesman said.
The Chief Minister informed the PM that his government was taking concrete steps to harness the massive hydropower potential of Arunachal Pradesh to translate the PM's vision of making India self-sufficient in energy.
Singh was earlier scheduled to visit the state in October but could not do so due to inclement weather.
