HYDERABAD: The city police went on high alert on Sunday following a few threatening calls during the Ganesh idol procession.City police commissioner AK Khan said they received two to three threatening calls during the day.He, however, refused to divulge further details about the nature of threats.Meanwhile, the police took a person into custody near Mozamjahi Market while he was moving suspiciously in the procession.He was shifted to an undisclosed place for questioning.The police are already on high alert following the recent blast in Delhi and communal violence in Adoni of Kurnool district.The police had some tense moments in the afternoon when the organisers of a pandal from Begum Bazaar and the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) stopping the procession for sometime at Mozamjahi Market.As soon as the Ganesh idol of Jai Ganesh Friends Association, Begum Bazaar, reached the market, the Utsav Samithi leaders urged the organisers to stop the procession as VHP International organising secretary Dinesh Chanderji and Udupi Peethadipathi Vishweshwara Theertha Swamy were addressing a gathering.The pandal organisers obliged, but the police present there insisted that the procession move on.The organisers and the Utsav Samithi leaders entered into a heated argument causing a mild tension.The procession moved only after the two leaders completed their speeches.Youth Run Over by Ganesh TruckA 20-year-old youth, Mahesh of Uppuguda, died on the spot when he was run over by a truck in which Ganesh idol was being taken for immersion at Lal Darwaza in the old city around 3:30 pm on Sunday.According to the police, Mahesh was in the 40- strong crowd which participated in the procession.As the procession reached Lal Darwaza, Mahesh fell down from the truck and came under its rear wheels.
