BANGALORE: Even as former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy announced that Basaveshwara Statue is going to be the venue for his fast-unto-death starting Saturday, the police have rejected permission for the event as sought by the JD(S).
A team of police officers led by DCP (Central) G Ramesh called on Kumaraswamy after the latter completed a press conference in his party office on Thursday afternoon and handed over a letter which contained details of refusing permission for the strike.Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy lambasted Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for getting a charge sheet printed on the so-called ill-gotten wealth of the Gowda family and getting it distributed.

"He [Yeddyurappa] is flogging a dead horse. Every charge made in the past, be it by B B Shivappa or other Congress leaders against my father, have been debunked by the Lokayukta. By raking up the issue, Yeddyurappa's has only displayed his vengeance," he said, while appealing to the chief minister not to indulge in

Claiming that his decision to go on an indefinite hunger strike from Saturday was not a publicity stunt, the state JD (S) chief said, "I am forced to resort to this extreme step because Yeddyurappa has levelled serious charges against my entire family. This is the only way I can make the government come to its senses."

No room for

H D Kumaraswamy has not been granted permission to hold his indefinite hunger strike at the Basaveshwara statue due to the sensitivity of the place.

The letter stated that the former chief minister can choose either of the following four places to hold the dharna freedom park, Gandhi statue on M G Road, Gandhi statue on Race Course Road or Bannappa Park, a police officer said.
