Police yet to trace the gang which threatened Assamese workers

Police have not yet got any clues about the criminal gang which threatened the Assamese migrant workers in Manjeri on Saturday night. The workers also are not being able to provide any clues regarding the persons who bullied them.

Meanwhile, an individual has informed the police about an MMS which he received containing anti-national message. The MMS has visuals about the riots in Assam. Though the police managed to trace the person who sent the MMS, they found that he was not connected with the incident.

“We have intensified the investigation into the case of threatening Assamese workers. The workers are unable to provide any kind of clue about the persons who came in the night and threatened them. We are searching for other evidence which would reveal the identity of the gang,” Rajeev, Manjeri SI, said.

The police have arranged security to the workers employed in a hollow bricks manufacturing unit in Manjeri. The employer is also staying with them in the night.  Though some institutions working in the area have come under suspicion, the police have not got any evidence connecting them with the case.

“We have inquired about the role of a particular organisation in the case. But they have denied any kind of involvement. The investigation is continuing on the case but we have not got any vital evidence,” Abhilash, DySP Malappuram, said. The police have registered a case under the IPC sections for rioting, unlawful assembly, criminal trespass and intimidation.

Around 40 Assamese have left the district in the past few days. Police said the reverse migration is not connected with any kind of threat they had received. They went back to Assam for supporting their relatives and friends affected by the riots.
