Pondy University seeks land in Karaikal

PUDUCHERRY: Pondicherry University has sought 20 acres of land from the government for increasing facilities at its centre in Karaikal so that more courses could be offered.M Ramadass, former Lok Sabha Member, director of studies, Pondicherry University and member of Planning Commission, said that under the XII Five Year Plan, the university was planning to launch innovative courses in the areas of oceanography, physical and chemical sciences, biological sciences, nanotechnology and green energy technology in addition to humanities and law.Such an expansion would provide opportunities to aspiring students of Karaikal to get qualitative higher education under one roof. With this expansion, Karaikal would emerge as an educational hub, like Puducherry region, he said.Ramadass said that the existing building is too small to go ahead with this plan.There is a need to establish a bigger campus for which 20 acres of land in and around the present centre is required.
