HYDERABAD: People across the city, from Gachibowli, Miyapur, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Begumpet to Krishnanagar, Uppal, AS Rao Nagar, Kukatpally, Padmaraonagar and other localities, are fuming at the unscheduled power cuts. With the mercury rising with each passing day, the power cuts during the day and night are giving them a hard time.Officials concerned, though, are downplaying the problem, saying it’s the result of maintenance issues and assert that there’s no power shortage at all.But people are not convinced and are questioning as to how technical and maintenance problems can come up at so many localities at the same time.“At my office, the power goes off for a minimum of 2-3 hours everyday. This has been the case in the last couple of weeks,” says Santhosh Kumar who works in the Pedammagudi area in Jubilee Hills. In Banjara Hills, the power cuts are just the same “Regularly irregular. We don’t have power for two hours and we never know when it is going to go off,” fumes Suresh Rao, an employee at a company on Road No 12, Banjara Hills.“Jubilee Hills circle is where all the powerful people stay. We have power cuts at odd hours in the night too. Add to it, at least 2 hours of power cuts during the day sometimes,” says Sathish Reddy, a resident of Krishna Nagar near Jubilee Hills.Priyadarshi P, who resides near Chandanagar, wonders, “how can there be technical problems everyday? We almost have 4 hours of power cut everyday (in intervals) and it’s disgusting considering the heat.”.Adding to that, Rajesh G, who stays at Telecom Nagar in Gachibowli, shares, “the power shutdowns of around 2-3 hours everyday is incredible at a time when I read reports of no power shortage in the state.A resident of Uppal, Sarada Kumari, says, “almost every half an hour, we have power cuts. This is badly affecting my daily life”.Shiva Krishna, a resident of Dr AS Rao Nagar, complains that there are power cuts everyday in his locality.“It’s very unpredictable.Mostly at night.” Same is the case in Malkajgiri, Begumpet and Safilguda and other areas.“We stay in Begumpet. On Saturday, the power was cut some four times during the day.We had no power from around 2 a.m to 4 a.m and during the day, at least thrice, there was no power. Each time, for an hour or so,” says Himabindu, a homemaker. What the officials say “There are no power cuts at all as the situation has improved a lot.During repairs and maintenance, power has to be shutdown and this can be a time-taking process,” says AG Satish Kumar, chief general manager, metro zone, APCPDCL.“Everyday, in cycles, transformers in different localities are given emergency load relief especially at peak hours. Each locality faces only half-an-hour power shutdown. The rising temperatures are also a concern and we have to provide emergency load relief,” he adds Assistant divisional manager of Banjara Hills division, P Gopalakrishna, explains, “there are power shutdowns due to the ongoing pre-monsoon maintenance. It’s a precautionary measure that includes even cutting of branches for line clearance. Also during heavy winds and gales, we have to shutdown as a precaution.Call me on 23431070/1072/1424 if there are any regular unscheduled power cuts.”
