CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday instituted Good Governance Awards for the State government employees who excel in areas like improving of services to the public, implementation of  development initiatives, tax management and administrative reforms.The State-level award, instituted for the first time in Tamil Nadu, carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a medal which will be presented to three officials. The awards will be presented by the CM during the Independence Day celebrations every year. An experts committee will select the awardees. The expert committee will seek best office procedures and  model techniques practised by various departments across the State and choose the efficient officials who excel in introducing new techniques in governance and public service.The CM has earmarked Rs 6 lakh for the awards and Rs 8 lakh for documenting the process of selection. The measure will encourage government employees in the state to practise the best administrative techniques and to provide better service to the people, an official release here said.
