THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Archbishop M Soosaipakiam has stressed the need for transforming healthcare institutions into places where quality medical treatment is provided at a low cost. Soosaipakiam was speaking after launching ‘Santhwanam-2011,’ a free medicine distribution plan for poor patients under the auspices of KCYM Forane, Pettah, at the Father Patrick Memorial Hall here. He lauded the involvement of the younger generation in the healthcare sector and said it was enough proof to show that goodness existed in the society. ‘’Our intention should be to provide better treatment at a low cost. Such social activities will help us to experience the joy and satisfaction of doing good without resorting to corruption and exploitation,’’ he said. ‘Santhwanam-2011’ was inspired by the example set by the Kumarapuram parish, which has been supplying food free of cost to the patients of the Medical College Hospital for the past 14 years. KCYM Pettah Forane president Yesudas Lawrence presided over the function. M A Vahid MLA, Kerala Catholic Youth Movement Archdiocese director Fr Paul Sunny and Forane director Fr Melkon offered felicitations.
