KARIMNAGAR: Vemulawada police arrested a pseudo-Naxal gang which tried to extort money from a contractor of SRSP flood flow canal works.Two toy pistols, 1 fake bomb, a kit bag and some other weapons were seized from their possession. According to Sircilla sub-division OSD (crime) D Janaki, the kingpin of the gang, Mutyam Ravi alias Ramesh (23), who worked for sometime with Tamisetti Nagaraju, contractor of SRSP works, planned to extort `50 lakh from the latter by threatening him in the name of extremists on July 2. The contractor’s brother, Tamisetti Hazrathaiah, lodged a complaint with police who began investigation. On Saturday, police arrested Nedunuri Ravi (30), Kannam Ramulu(25), Budugu Devaiah (38), Borra Srinivas (24) -- all natives of Vemulawada mandal -- and one Kottepalli Laxman, belonging to Mamidalapalli in Konaraopet mandal, along with Mutyam Ravi.  Nedunuri Ravi and Budugu Devaiah are former Naxalites associated with different extremist groups.Police also arrested two other persons, Tikkali Rajalingam of Konaraopet mandal in Karimnagar district and Jawaharlwal of Nizamabad district, in connection with the case. The duo reportedly sold weapons, used for hunting animals, to the gang. A case has been registered.
