When u meet someone for the first time, ask their name and feel there are not many important things to discuss, then ask the second question, about the place they belong to. Many times many people after knowing my name have asked me the second big question, so u r bong ? I pause, think a bit, and reply...ya kind of. Kind Of ??? And i do it always. Confused ? Dont know how to tackle the big question.

Born in Bihar (so Bihari), politcs made it Jharkhand (so Jharkhandi), mothertongue is Bong (So Bengali. Though can only speak Bengali, can manage reading somehow and can hardly write. Went to a CBSE Board school, where Hindi/Sankrit was the only option for second language)ancestors were from UP ( so in Mumbai, am "bhaiyya"). As many places that many identities.

People also change my name depending on the place and their prefernce. Now I have also learnt to do so depending on my preference. In Bihar/Jharkhand, am Suman or Sumant Mishra, in Calcutta, am Soumen Mishro. Grew up watching B&W Uttam-Suchitra hits(Tollywood's most popular pair till date)and Satyajit-Soumitra classics(Director Satyajit Ray and his favourite actor Soumitra Chatterjee).Beacuse of Bong connection, gel well with guys from Orissa and Assam too as language is quite similar. Know how to eat a litti (Bihari dish) and what to do at Chaath pooja(popular Bihari festival)So, try to fit everywhere. Have also lived in Pune and Bangalore. Know "poha" in marathi is "chuda" in Bihar. "Chumma" is kiss everywhere but its "simply" in Malyalam.

Half of my relatives speak only hindi other half only Bengali though they understand the other language. So at social gatherings like marriage it's Bihar,Jharkhand,UP,West Bengal and little bit of Punjab (History books say we have some connection from Punjab too. So, some relatives are typically Punjabi)coming alltogther. Rituals also vary depending upon the person, place and the ritual. So, when someone ask me that big question i just wonder what to say.

But when I serioulsy think about myself and my "mishra/ro" origin, one of the quotes from my Sanskrit tutors comes to my rescue....he told me according to Vedas....we all Indians are "Aryans"(thats our origin) means "shresth" in hindi....the best. So,be it Bihar/Jharkhand/West Bengal/UP/Punjab...i simply love the song where King Khan dances to the tune of "am the best".
