New Delhi: We have more than half a dozen instances of father - son and husband - wife contesting in the Lok Sabha elections. But, we have only one instance of both mother and daughter contesting in the current Lok Sabha elections.
Former Bihar chief minister and the RJD chief Lalu Pradad Yadav's wife Rabri Devi and her eldest daughter Misa Bharti are trying their luck in the current elections.
Rabri Devi is contesting from Saran in Bihar. She is facing her own younger brother and Independent candidate Sadhu Yadav in this seat. Lalu - Rabri's eldest daughter Misa Bharti is making her electoral debut from Pataliputra on the RJD ticket.
She is facing her father's one time close friend Ram Kripal Yadav who recently defected to the BJP after Lalu preferred his daughter over him for Pataliputra.
Since Lalu Pradad Yadav is a convict in the fodder scam, he is not eligible to fight. He is campaigning for his wife and daughter aggressively.
We also have two instances of both mother and son contesting in the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi are seeking a re-election from Raebareli and Amethi and the other half of Nehru-Gandhi family Maneka Gandhi and her son Varun Gandhi are also seeking re-election on the BJP ticket.
