Shimla: A magisterial enquiry ordered by the Himachal Pradesh government into the shocking death of medical student Aman Kachroo, allegedly due to ragging, has indicted the Tanda college authorities for “casual handling” of complaints by freshers.
The enquiry report submitted on Friday by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Kangra Sandeep Kumar to the state government blamed Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College authorities for “handling the ragging and acts of indiscipline in a very casual manner”.
The lenient approach of the college authorities, particularly the then principal, in dealing with these instances has culminated in the unfortunate demise of Kachroo, the report added.
It was found during the enquiry that there was a “general acceptance of ragging among the college authorities, faculty and students”, it said.
“There was no effort to hold any counselling session for senior and junior students at the college with a view to eradicating the evil of ragging,” the report added.
The enquiry report has pointed out that there is not a single instance of any effective and punitive action having been taken, even though on some occasions culprits had admitted their misdeeds and apologised, he added.
