Guwahati: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Monday extended his support to beleagured Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and asked him to keep the rebel MLAs, who want him removed, under control.
Gogoi has been facing severe opposition from Congress MLAs Cabinet after the party's debacle in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Education and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Till now we have 32 MLAs in our support and more will join us. We are demanding removal of Tarun Gogoi."
Sarma with the support of 55 Ministers and MLA have openly demanded change in the CLP leadership. Rest of the 79 Congress MLAs and Ministers are stated to be Gogoi loyalists.
