The Congress said Rahul had succeeded in reaching out to people in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi: The Congress seems to be indifferent to furore that party MP Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Babri Masjid have created.

The party on Wednesday claimed that Rahul had succeeded in reaching out to people in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh and that his statement should be seen in a "purely sentimental" manner.

News agency PTI quoted AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot as saying that the fact that leaders from across the political spectrum including Leader of the Opposition L K Advani has reacted to Rahul's remarks showed the "nervousness" in their camp by his campaign.

Gehlot came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which dubbed Rahul's remarks as "anti-Hindu", and said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani had then described the day of the demolition of Babri Masjid as a "black day".

The BJP should first introspect and explain to the nation, why the Godhra aftermath, which was described as a "blot on humanity" had happened in Gujarat, instead of attacking Rahul, Gehlot was quoted as saying.

What's your reaction?
