The wife of former Rajasthan minister Babulal Nagar, who has been accused of raping and assaulting a women, on Friday defended her husband, saying the charges were false and no such incident took place.
"She (the complainant) used to come to our house and my parlour.... When she lodged the FIR, we were told that she had cases against her," said Nagar's wife Sunita.
Nagar, who tendered his resignation on Thursday, also said that allegation of rape against him was part of a "political conspiracy" and demanded a probe to unearth the truth. He held a press conference at his residence on Friday, along with his wife, son, daughter-in-law and daughter.
Alleging that woman had connection with a local land mafia, the former minister demanded a probe into it. The 35-year-old woman had alleged that the former Minister of State for Dairy and Khadi, who had helped her in the past, called her to his official bungalow in Civil Lines on September 11, promising to get her a job.
On some pretext, the minister took her into a bedroom and raped her, she said.
Refuting the charges, Nagar said, "I was surrounded by hundreds of people from my assembly constituency at my official residence on the day. My wife, son, daughter and daughter-in-law were also present at home on September 11 and this can be confirmed by the location of their mobile phones.
