NEW DELHI: The SC on Monday issued notices to B Rama Raju and other former Satyam Computers officials on a petition filed by CBI seeking more time to complete its proceedings in the trial of the multicrore Satyam accounting scam. The scam involves the company's founder B Ramalinga Raju and nine others.
A Bench comprising Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice Deepak Verma issued directions to tag the petition with the bail petitions filed last week by Raju and other accused. The Bench asked the CBI not to seek any adjournment. "There is no doubt that you, the CBI, did an admirable job," the Bench remarked. CBI moved the apex court with this request for extra time after it could not complete the trial by July 31, the deadline fixed by it in November last year. Additional Solicitor General Haren Rawal, appearing for CBI told the Bench trial could not be completed within stipulated time because of 18 days of strike by lawyers and 10 days of vacation for criminal courts. Deposition of 211 witnesses has been completed and only 15 investigating officers remain to be examined, he said.

The four who had earlier moved the apex court for bail are exinternal chief auditor V S Prabhakar Gupta, exemployees G Ramakrishna, D Venkatpathi Raju and Ch Srisailam. The fraud is to the tune of `14,000 crore.
