In a major embarrassment for national carrier Air India, a rat on board a London bound flight forced it to return midway. The Mumbai-London AI Flight 131 carrying 225 passengers was called back after a rat was spotted.
The flight took off from Mumbai at around 7:30 AM and was flying some where over Iran when the rat was spotted and an alarm raised. The flight then made a U-turn and returned to Mumbai.
It landed at around 1:30 PM after being air borne for almost six hours. The plane was fumigated and passengers moved to another plane for the journey to London.
While an inquiry has been ordered into the incident, it is not the first time that an Air India flight has had rodent trouble.
Earlier in 2015, a rat had grounded Air India's Milan flight which had 200 passengers on board. The flight AI-123 had been flying for two hours when a rat was spotted.
There were about 200 people on board. The plane was over the Pakistani airspace and had to be recalled,
