CHENNAI: Swathi Sriram, a final-year student of Journalism at the MOP Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai, and Prem Shankar Prakash, a first-year student of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, have been selected as Interport students to represent India for the ‘Semester at Sea’ programme of the University of Virginia, USA, aboard the MV Explorer, the only floating university in the world.MV Explorer is one of the fastest and safest ships in the world that carries more than 500 students and faculty on a 105-day voyage around the world with classes aboard the ship. Swathi and Prem Shankar will board the ship at Mauritius on Tuesday and sail to India on October 15, 2011.On board, they will be the ambassadors of India and interact with the students and faculty aboard the ship.This is the joint programme of the University of Virginia and the Rotary International District 3230 which started off in 1993. This is a gesture of goodwill extended by the University of Virginia since the Rotary International District 3230 hosts the students aboard the ship when they land in India.
