Research crucial to medical science

Research and value-based studies are  prerequisites to medical science, New Delhi Ambedkar University Vice-Chancellor Dr Shyam B Menon has said.

He was speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 2007 batch of BDS students of Amrita School of Dentistry.

Mata Amritanadamayi Math general secretary Swami Poornanandamayi also spoke at the function.

“It is only by providing due importance and respect to value-based studies and research that a medical practitioner can become a good professional.

“ A medical practitioner has the highest social responsibility. Medical education will be complete only by attaining the qualities of love, sacrifice and resilience.

“For this, one must aim at selfless service. What we need to create is a generation which can spread goodness to society with love,” Poornanandamayi said.

Amrita Vishwapeedam Registrar Dr S Krishnamurthy administered the graduation oath to the BDS students. Also present at the event were Registrar of Kerala University of Health Sciences Dr G Ganapathy, Amrita Medical College Principal Dr Prathapan Nair, Amrita School of Dentistry principal Dr K Narayanan Unni and Amrita School of Dentistry vice-principal Dr Balagopal Varma, among others.
