Paris: Daniel Ricciardo will be racing for the Hispania Racing team at the British GP in Silverstone next week.
The young Australian driver, who was knocking on the doors for a race seat at Scuderia Toro Rosso, the sister team of Red Bull Racing, will join Narain Karthikeyan and Tonio Liuzzi as the third driver of the team.
However, with his drive confirmed at Silverstone, it will be interesting to see who, among Narain and Liuzzi, gets dropped.
Narain has been consistently outperformed by his teammate Liuzzi in the eight races so far. Given by the performance yardstick alone, Riccardio could replace the Indian driver. However, Narain has considerable sponsorship backing, a factor that might come into play.
Speaking about his HRT deal, Ricciardo said, "It was a dream come true for me. For the first time on an F1 starting grid! I had to pinch myself a couple of times to be sure that it's real.
"I'm excited and can hardly wait to drive at Silverstone. It's a new challenge, a new experience, a new team, but I'm ready and will give my best in any event," he said.
