CHENNAI: In a bid to make Coimbatore the knowledge hub of the state, Tamil Nadu is wooing IT companies to invest in the city by setting up their businesses in the Rs 407 crore state-of-the-art IT park in Coimbatore.Addressing a roadshow on Tidel Park Coimbatore here on Monday night, Industries Minister S P Velumani said the state is taking various measures to make it a destination choice for IT.He said Tamil Nadu which has been pushed to seventh place among the states vibrant in business and the present government wants it to be catapulted to the first position. He said the state government has a futuristic vision to transform the present style of governance to adopt global best practices followed by the corporate sector across the world.Industries secretary Sudaradevan said that the government plans to make Coimbatore the knowledge powerhouse by 2020. “The focus of the present government is to develop tier-I and tier-II cities,” he added.Additional chief secretary and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) chairperson Susan Mathew said the IT park at Coimbatore with a built up area of 17 lakh square feet is nsituated right on six-lane highway just 2km from airport and 7 km for railway station. “It has all required infrastructure facilities for the IT industry and is contructed in three basements, ground and four upper floors. It has common facilities in 20,000 square feet including bank ATMs, bookstore, video conference hall, health center besides a food court in 20,000 sq ft,” she mentioned to reporters.
