New Delhi: Rocky and Subhendu Rai - the two brave soldiers who laid down their lives fighting the Pakistani terrorists in Udhampur earlier this week - will be cremated in their native places in Haryana and West Bengal, respectively, on Friday.
Rocky and Rai - two jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) - took the full force of the bullets which the terrorists rained upon a BSF convoy as it plied on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
One of the terrorists was killed in the retaliatory attack, while the other - Usman Khan - was captured alive. 13 BSF jawans were injured.
The BSF on Thursday paid homage to the two martyrs, with officers and soldiers laying wreaths on their bodies amidst shouts of 'Rocky, Subhendu amar rahe' or 'Long live Rocky and Subhendu'.
Their bodies will be carried in flower-laden trucks for their final journey to their native places.
"Yesterday, our convoy was attacked by terrorists. We lost two brave soldiers. One of them was Rocky, who not only stopped a terrorist from entering the bus but despite being injured killed the terrorist", Rakesh Sharma, IG BSF, told PTI.
"Because of his active role and alertness, other lives of BSF jawans were saved. It was gallant act of Rocky. We salute him for his bravery", he said. "His second fellow Subhendu, who was also sitting in the bus, also tried to stop the terrorists but because the volume of the fire was so heavy, he received bullets. But despite that he tried to save other jawans by laying down his life," he said.
