THOOTHUKUDI: Fake shoes and electronic goods worth Rs 1.2 crore were seized by officials of the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from the Thoothukudi port on Thursday.According to C Rajan, DRI Additional Director General, the seizure was made after a tip-off about a Delhi-based gang that imported fake sports shoes of leading brands and electrical goods from China through the Thoothukudi port. The DRI found a container in the name of a shipping agency in Thoothukudi that was not cleared for over three months at the container freight station. But, the agency said it neither owned the consignment nor could it identify the owner and the importer. When the container was opened on Thursday, 7,620 pairs of fake shoes were found. Other cartons containing 29,700 circuit-breakers without ISI certification, 95,000 pieces of brass nozzles and 22,000 pieces of hair clips were also found.
