The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has sanctioned Rs 16.26 crore for modernisation of sports infrastructure in its centres across the state.
SAI regional director G Kishore told a press conference here on Monday that modernisation project would be launched by Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt S M at SAI-LNCPE, Kariavattom, on Wednesday at 3.30 pm.
Kishore said that construction of a paddling pool, modern fitness centre and modernisation of boat house with state-of-the-art facilities would be the major works to be launched in Alappuzha Watar Sports Training Centre.
Currently, this is the only institute in the state where training is being imparted in rowing, canoeing and kayaking.
On completion of the proposed modernisation projects, the centre will be more ideal for conducting national and international competitions and camps. He also said that the works, to be undertaken by Central Public Works Department, would be completed on a time-bound manner so that water sports events of the National Games could be held there.
The project also includes modernisation of infrastructure at SAI-LNCPE, Kariavattom. Warm up tracks, pavilion, media room, players gallery, dope testing facilities and change rooms will be constructed near the velodrome which will also be renovated.
