New Delhi: Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands made short work of the Polish-Chinese duo Alicja Rosolska and Jie Zheng to claim the Brussels Open on Saturday. In a one-sided contest, they won 6-3 6-2. It was the Indian's 14th doubles WTA title, and second this season after Pattaya.
The tournament has been memorable for 25-year-old Sania as she also notched up his 500th professional win (singles and doubles) here. She was effusive after the win: "It's great to win our second tournament back together - last week we were unlucky to play the No.1 seeds in the second round.
"We had tough opponents today - when you come into a final your opponents are there because they've been playing well all week, so we just tried to get the important points and then concentrate on staying ahead when we were ahead.
"It's a great win and gives us a lot of confidence going into Paris."
When the fourth-seeded pair was asked what other memories they'll leave with. "The chocolate," Mattek-Sands, who won his 10th doubles WTA title and second with Sania after 2007 Cincinnati, said. "We've been doing extra fitness so we could have it!"
