Saradha scam: TMC MP Srinjoy Bose quits party, Rajya Sabha a day after getting bail
Bose was granted bail by a Kolkata court on Wednesday in the Saradha chit fund scam case.

Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suffered a big blow as MP and Saradha scam accused Srinjoy Bose resigned not only from the party but also from his Rajya Sabha seat.

Bose was granted bail by a Kolkata court on Wednesday in the Saradha chit fund scam case. He was granted bail after three months in jail on grounds that charge-sheet was not filed against him within the stipulated time.

He was arrested by the CBI in November 2014. and spent nearly three months in jail. Bose has quit politics as well.

Bose was accused of striking a deal between the holding company of Bengaly daily Sambad Pratidin, owned by him, and that of Channel 10, owned by Saradha boss and the case's prime accused Sudipta Sen. Under this deal, Sen is said to have paid Bose's newspaper Rs 60 lakh per month for over one-and-a-half years.

Bose's arrest had triggered a war of words between the ruling TMC and opposition parties. Party supremo and West Vebgal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had defended him and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of political vendetta.
