A golgappa seller was stabbed in the abdomen after he asked a customer to stand in queue for servings in Sector 49 of Uttar Pradesh’s Noida on Saturday evening.
The 30-year-old vendor — originally from Badaun — Ravindra Kumar is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Living in Sector 49’s Baraula village, Kumar has a golgappa and chaat stall at a market near his rented house, a Times of India report said.
A slew of customers gathered at Kumar’s tall around 7:45 pm on Sunday, said Sandeep Chaudhary, SHO of Sector 49 police station. However, Vikas Sharma, a man from the neighbourhood, suddenly barged in the queue and asked to be served out of turn.
“Ravindra declined, saying there were many customers waiting in line. Vikas got angry and hurled a whirl of abuses at him,” the SHO said. Reportedly, Kumar protested against Sharma and asked him not to hurl abuse at him, especially in the presence of other customers. “After a heated exchange, the accused whipped out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Kumar in the abdomen a couple of times” the SHO added.
The accused fled the scene after Kumar fell to the ground, following which the other vendors in the market rushed the golgappa vendor to the hospital.
Chaudhury said that according to doctors, Kumar is out of danger and is responding well to the treatment.
Ravindra Kumar’s brother, Harendra filed a police complaint, after which an FIR was registered against Vikas under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon) at the Sector 49 police station. “We are trying to trace the accused. We hope to arrest him soon,” the SHO added.
RECENT CASES OF STABBING
Two days ago, on October 13, two separate incidents of stabbing took place in Delhi.
A 19-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his friends following an argument between them in outer-north Delhi’s Narela area, police said on October 13.
The incident happened on the intervening night of October 12 and 13 when victim Gulshan was attacked by three of his friends with a knife and sharp-edged weapons while he was going to his home, they said.
A purported CCTV footage of the incident which surfaced on social media shows some men attacking Gulshan. The victim received multiple injuries and was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead, police said.
However, the reason for the dispute couldn’t be ascertained yet, a police official said. Although Gulshan and his friends had indulged in some argument while eating momos at a street vendor, the official added.
A case of murder has been registered and teams have been formed to nab the accused, the official said.
In another incident, in south Delhi’s Lado Sarai area, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed multiple times by her ex-boyfriend on October 13. The 27-year-old accused was caught on the spot.
The woman received about 13 stab injuries on her face, fingers and thighs, however doctors said that she was out of danger and under treatment.
The accused and the victim had been in a relationship for the last two years, however recently the victim had started ignoring him. Irked by the ignorance and in an attempt to speak with the woman, the accused went to her house early on October 13, when she was leaving for work.
But as she refused to talk to him and got into a cab that she had booked to go to work, the accused also got in with her and began arguing. Amid the heat of the argument, the accused whipped out a knife from his pant pocket and stabbed her multiple times.
A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC was registered and the accused, identified as Gaurav Pal — a resident of Ghaziabad in UP, working in a private company at Haryana’s Gurugram — was also apprehended, the police official said.
