HYDERABAD: The State Bank of Hyderabad, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, on Tuesday launched SBH Vidya, a welfare scheme, to provide financial assistance to the underprivileged and physically and mentally challenged students. Chaya Ratan, special chief secretary, Women and Child Welfare Department, formally launched the scheme at the government girls’ high school at Kingsway, Secunderabad. Under the scheme, the bank plans to adopt a student studying between Class VI and X based on the recommendations of the School Management Committee. Each of its 1410 branches will adopt a student across the country.The beneficiaries, depending on their needs, will receive school and examination fee, study materials, uniforms, a bicycle, braille books, table/chairs for reading at home, spectacles, tricycle, medical allowance and buss pass/auto fare among others.The SBH will grant `5,000 to each of the selected students at the end of March this year. “We propose to continue the support every year till he/she reaches Class X. Each year, we propose to adopt another student also under the scheme,”said M Bhagavantha Rao, Managing Director of SBH. According to him, the bank has made arrangements at all of its branches to implement the scheme.E K Harikumar, general manager (PB,Tech & Fin), MK Bhattacharya, deputy general manager, Secunderabad Zone and K Nageswara Rao, deputy educational officer were among those present.
