Eleven people had been convicted for the 1993 blasts in Gujarat's Surat, in which one woman was killed and several people injured.

New Delhi: All those convicted in the 1993 Surat bomb blast case have been acquitted by the Supreme Court. Eleven people had been convicted for the January-February 1993 blasts in Gujarat's Surat, in which one woman was killed and several people injured.

A two-judge bench of Justice TS Thakur and Justice C Nagappam not only acquitted all the 11 accused but also reversed a TADA court verdict that had sentenced them to jail from 10 to 20 years.

On January 21, 1993 as bomb exploded near Sadhna school in Mini bazar in Surat's Varachha area. A female student Alpa Patel was killed in the blast and 11 others injured.

The very next day another blast took place at Surat railway station platform number 1 targeting the Gujarat Express train in which 38 passengers were injured.
