Patna: In yet another instance of kidnapping of children a 14-year-old school student has allegedly been abducted in Patna. A police official said on Wednesday Pankaj Kumkar Lochan alias Roshan, a class nine student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, was abducted on Monday night. His father, Raj Kishore Rai who is a leading transporter of Vaishali district, has lodged a police complaint.
Roshan is the nephew of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislator Bishnudev Rai, who himself faces charges of abduction and extortion in Vaishali district. Roshan lived with his family in Pataliputra colony - an upmarket residential area.
"My son went out to meet someone but did not return. Though we searched a lot for him, we could not trace his whereabouts," said Rai.
Superintendent of Police Vikas Vaibhav said a case of abduction has been registered on the basis of the statement given by the boy's family.
"The police are probing the incident," he added. Police suspect that Roshan has been abducted for ransom.
Abductions for ransom are common in Bihar and the new Nitish Kumar led-government has also not been able to turn around the situation.
According to records, 97 abductions were reported between January and June 2006, against 117 in the corresponding period in 2005. Since June, there have been around 50 abductions.
In September, the state government informed the Patna High Court that 904 children have been abducted since 2001. Of this, 766 were rescued, 40 killed by kidnappers and 98 are missing.
