BERHAMPUR: Seven houses in Podempeta village in Ganjam block were swept away in the last ten days following high tides.
While five houses perished last week, sea water engulfed two more on Thursday. P Chottray, a local leader said the sea water, now dangerously hovering around the village border was around 500 metres away from the village until last year."We had constructed houses near to the sea to check the arrival of fish. If the situation continues, six other houses stand a risk of being swept away," said Ramulu, a resident of Podempeta. The administration has distributed only polythene sheets as relief, he complained.
