Madras High Chief Justice M Y Eqbal has called upon insurance companies not to be rigid in settling disputes over the quantum of compensation to be given to an accident victim. “Only in the rarest of rare cases, they should go in for appeal against the quantum of compensation,” he added.
In Coimbatore, 3,000 MCOP cases were pending in seven courts, all of which would now be transferred to the new special court, inaugurated by the Chief Justice on Sunday at the combined court complex here.
At the function, the Chief Justice walked down the dais to give a compensation cheque of Rs 6 lakh to an accident victim who had lost his leg. In all, Rs 32.71 lakh compensation money was disbursed.
The State Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam, Agriculture Minister S Damodaran and Justice P Jyothimani of the High Court were among those who participated.
