She is not pregnant: Tests

CUTTACK: The case of the life bid on a 24-year-old woman by goons, allegedly hired by the family of a retired judicial officer, has taken a new turn with medical reports revealing that she is not pregnant.   The woman continues to be in a critical condition in SCB Medical College and Hospital here having sustained multiple fractures after being thrown off the Mahanadi river barrage on Tuesday. While, she had reportedly told the police in her statement that she was a couple of months pregnant, the tests on her on Saturday were negative.‘’Along with other tests, pregnancy tests were also conducted which turned negative. She was also subjected to ultrasound tests which also were negative,” hospital spokesperson and emergency officer Dr B Moharana said. The reports, however, will have no bearing on the case, police said. The cops claimed it had been established that the retired judicial officer’s  family had conspired to eliminate her. Police have already arrested retired additional district judge Samir Ray, his wife Gitika and son Satyabrata along with a family accomplice Prashant Das on charges of abduction and attempt to murder. The woman, who had been staying with the family for more than six years, had allegedly developed an illicit relationship with Satyabrata. While Satyabrata had allegedly promised the woman to marry her, his family was keen on another proposal for him. The woman on knowing the developments had protested which led the family to hatch a conspiracy to get rid of her. Police said Prashant was entrusted with the responsibility by Satyabrata and a ‘supari’ of Rs 3.5 lakh was given to the former and some hired goons. The goons, reportedly four in number, had forcibly taken the woman from the house of the former judge and brought her to the barrage. Her mouth gagged and limbs tied, she was thrown off near the Gate no. 11-12 on Jagatpur-end of the barrage. She, however, escaped a certain death as she fell on a platform above the gate and was rescued by locals and police. Jagatpur police, investigating the case, on Saturday said the supari killers have been identified and would be nabbed soon.
