London: Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's drama 'Sherlock' has been named TV show of the year by critics. The Sherlock Holmes adaptation topped a poll of critics and writers compiled by Radio Times magazine to find the best

show on TV in 2012, reported Contactmusic.

"Sherlock delivered the TV event of the year with three perfect episodes," said Tim Glanfield, RadioTimes editor.

The detective drama saw off competition from Claire Danes' show 'Homeland', which placed second, and Olympics-themed 'mockumentary' Twenty Twelve at third.

Political satire 'The Thick of It' came in fourth ahead of sitcom 'Fresh Meat' at number five.

Last year's top show, Danish thriller 'The Killing', dropped to number 38 on the 2012 list.
