Shettar promises Gavai chair at KUD

DHARWAD: Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar has promised to set up the proposed Panchakshari Gavai study chair in the Karnatak University Dharwad (KUD) at the earliest.Inaugurating the Pandit Puttaraja Sahityotsava-2011 organised by Pandit Puttaraja Seva Samiti, Gadag, in Dharwad on Sunday, he agreed that the proposal sent to the government had been lying in limbo for long and successive governments, including the BJP, have failed to take the matter seriously.Shettar recalled that it was he who first took up the issue with the then chief minister SM Krishna when he was the leader of opposition in the legislative assembly. “Though Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa was enthusiastic to set up the chair when he was the deputy chief minister in the JD(S)-BJP coalition government, he did not pursue the matter seriously after becoming the CM,” Shettar said.
