Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists went into protest mode.

New Delhi: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists went into protest mode on Thursday against the Shiv Sena's claim on Belgaum.

The activists vandalised the Bank of Maharashtra in Bangalore and 20 protesters were taken into custody. Violence has been escalating on the land issue and two mini trucks bearing Maharashtra registration numbers were torched by some Kannada organisations at Antarasanahalli on the national highway bypass near Tumkur on Monday as well.

The police found flags of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike at the spot.

The trucks were badly burnt by the time fire force personnel and police reached the spot, sources said.

Tumkur district SP Dr P S Harsha claimed that the police had definite clues and expressed confidence that the culprits would be arrested soon.

In Maharashtra Shiv Sena activists have been an anti-Karnataka spree. The bone of contention is the land of Belgaum on the border of Maharashtra and Karnataka which falls under the State of Karnataka but is being claimed by Shiv Sena as a part of Maharashtra.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, replying to a matter raised by Jayachandra, urged the Prime Minister to direct Maharashtra not to rake up the boundary issue time and again.
