The High Court on Tuesday granted bail to CPM MLA T V Rajesh, who was arrested in connection with the murder of Shukkoor, an IUML activist.
Rajesh, charged under IPC Section 118 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) contended that he had no role in the murder and was not part of any conspiracy. Rajesh submitted that the probe in the case is almost over, and that the court had already granted bail to several accused.
Rajesh also said that he was not able to intervene in developmental activities or the people’s issues as an MLA as he was in jail. Justice S S Satheesachandran granted bail to Rajesh. The court held that further detention of the accused was not essential for the purpose of the investigation. “In the given fact of the case and also having regard for the larger interest of the constituency, the petitioner can be granted bail,” the court observed.
The court directed Rajesh to furnish a bond of `25,000 and present two sureties for the like amount. He should appear before investigating officers as and when required, the court said.
The allegation is that Venu, the 30th accused in the case, made a phone call, from the hospital room where Rajesh and Jayarajan were admitted, to the accused P P Sureshan and A V Babu asking them to take necessary action against the IUML workers.
