Pune: The Maharashtra state electricity board is enforcing power cuts for eight to 12 hours everyday. Students appearing for their board exams are the worst affected. But one village in Pune district has found a solution.

Sarika from Kaldari village in Pune district will be appearing for class 10th board exams on seventh march. Electricity is available here only during daytime. The students had a tough time studying at night. But now there is some respite. Her school has installed non-polluting solar lamps.

"Earlier I used to study in rockel lamp, black soot produced by those lamps affected my health. Last week solar lamps were installed at the school they are non-polluting and now I can study till late night." Tenth Class student, Sarika Gawade said.

The villagers and the Gram-Panchayat have spent Rs 28,000 to install these lamps.

" During nights there is no electricity and that is crucial time for studies. For this reason we installed these solar lamps and we managed to saved valuable time of students" Shree Kedareshwar High school teacher Sopanrao Chopde said.

Students is rural Maharashtra are struggling because of power shortage in the state but in this village Kadhari villagers and teachers community have found a solution on this acute power shortage and they have set an example in front of rural Maharashtra.
