BANGALORE: In a high voltage drama reported at the Magadi police station in Ramanagaram district, a politician's husband poured petrol on self and a police sub inspector. However, the suicide and homicide attempt was foiled by other police officers in the station.
The accused Shivanna (52), is married to Kalpana Shivanna, who had once contested the legislators election in Magadi Constituency from Congress party.Reportedly, Sub Inspector R Raviprakash and Shivanna were not in good terms since the past four months, after the cop had seized Shivanna's bike and a four wheeler in connection with a robbery case.
According to the police, Shivanna's son Karthik was the main accused in the robbery case. Allegedly, Karthik collected details of affluent people and contacted them claiming to be a driver in the Income Tax department. He then alerted them that the IT officials were holding a raid on their houses and suggested them to shift valuables to another place. Karthik's associates who waited for these victims to proceed with the shifting, would then attack them and steal the valuables. The victims, however, could not file a complaint in such cases. In connection with this, the police had seized the bike and a Scorpio vehicle used in the crime and a four wheeler that belonged to Shivanna. As the police were on the look out for Karthik, he had obtained anticipatory bail from the court, the police added.Shivanna was soon taken to a hospital and reports showed he was in an inebriated state. His associates came to the hospital and argued with the policemen and in the melee Shivanna escaped. Karthik, Shivanna's son was arrested for threatening Raviprakash of dire consequences. Soon, the father son duo were arrested and produced before a local court. Shivanna has now been admitted to a hospital.
