Pratapgarh: Education is an important constituent to strengthen the backbone of the country and every child, rich or poor, has the right to study. While it's easier for the well off to avail proper training and get through premier institutes, those mired in poverty fail to get through. Battling the hardships, sons of daily wage earner Dharamraj - Raju and Brijesh - have qualified the entrance exam for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).
An ecstatic Dharamraj Saroj is short of words for the achivements of his sons but laments that he does not even have Rs 1 lakh to pay for the admission of his sons. Raju and Brijesh secured 167th and 410th rank respectively in the IIT entrance exam.
Dharamraj owns 8 goats, one cycle and a table fan, has so far managed to collect just Rs 30,000 to pay the fees.
The family lives in a mud hut in Lalganj village in the Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. The family did not even have electricity connection in their house till last year, says Dharamraj.
