CHENNAI: A state-of-the-art operation theatre with sophisticated facilities is coming up at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital in Salem.“It is the first-of-its-kind facility to be set up in any government medical college hospital in the State,” Dr C Vamsadhara, Director of Medical Education, told Express on the sidelines of the inauguration of the annual continuing medical education programme. The event was organised by The Institute of Anesthesiology and Critical Care of the Madras Medical College (MMC) here on Sunday. On the salient features of the operation theatre, she said it would be a fully automated facility. “The doors of the theatre opens automatically as it will have a sensor attached. Besides, the temperature and lights will get adjusted without manual intervention,” Vamsadhara said. There is no need to wash the floor either, she added. The operation theatre is constructed at a separate government hospital building, which will be inaugurated soon. On the condition of operation theatres in other government hospitals in the State, Vamsadhara said all operation theatres were being modernised with latest equipment. “We are not inferior to anybody,” she observed to drive home the point that the government medical colleges were rendering better services to the public.Earlier, addressing the gathering, MMC Dean Dr V Kanagasabai said Tamil Nadu topped trauma emergencies as more and more over speeding vehicles met with accidents on roads. “The role of anesthesiologists is vital in such emergencies,” he noted.
