New Delhi: Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday expressed serious concern over the presence of Pakistan's spying network in the Army, and said internal investigations were on to see how much these espionage rings have infiltrated the Armed Forces.

''It is a matter of extreme concern that the ISI is trying to infiltrate and subvert our armed forces,'' Mukherjee said on the sidelines of the Coast Guards function here, while commenting on the arrest of two jawans over the past two days for their alleged links with the ISI.

According to preliminary investigations, the espionage networks may have started from J&K and spread across New Delhi and Kathmandu, the Defence Minister said.

He said military as well as civilian intelligence outfits and investigating agencies had been pressed into action to bust the networks and find their kingpins.

On the arrest of two jawans, he said police was investigating their case and only after that the Army would court martial them.

''We have to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future, and if there are any loopholes, these would be plugged,'' he added.

A 24-year old Army signalman, Ritesh Kumar Vishwakarma, posted in Leh, was arrested at the Palam Airport on his arrival from Leh on charges of spying.

Ealier, Havildar Anil Kumar, working with the Army Group Insurance Scheme, was arrested from South-West Delhi's Mahipalpur areas while giving defence related sensitive documents to an official of the Pakistan High Commission.
