Sreesanth injured, out of second Test
Sreesanth injured, out of second Test
Gloster said Sreesanth picked the injury during the Antigua Test and it was not a recurrence of an earlier injury.

St Lucia: The current tour is turning out to be a jinxed one for fast Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth as he has been laid low by an injury for the second time since his arrival in the Caribbean last month.

After missing out on two One-Dayers out of five due to an ankle injury, the Kerala bowler was ruled out of the second Test against the West Indies starting from Saturday due to a sore left heel.

Team physiotherapist John Gloster said Sreesanth would need three to five days to recuperate.

"Sreesanth pulled up sore in the left heel at the end of the last Test match," Gloster said on Thursday.

"He has got an inflamed bursar at the back of the heel. We saw a specialist, and he gave him an injection in that heel. The specialist is confident it will settle down reasonably quickly, but at this stage, we are going to give him three to five days of rest," he explained.

"We will then work him back to full fitness after this."

Gloster said Sreesanth picked the injury during the course of the Antigua match and it was not a recurrence of the injury suffered by him earlier on the tour.

"This came on during the last match, so it's a little bit unfortunate for Sree," Gloster said.

"We are pretty confident the injection he took will get on top of the injury, and we will see how he goes over the next three to five days," he added.

Injuries, though, have not been the only bane for Sreesanth, his form has also been a matter of debate.

In the three One-Dayers that he played, he could just pick two wickets and that too at an average of 79.

Lot was expected from him after he was asked to open the Indian attack in the Antigua Test after Irfan Pathan was dropped due to poor form.

Form seemed to have deserted Sreesanth when he was hit all around the park in the first innings. But the 23-year-old did make amends somewhat with his show in the second during which he took two wickets, including the prized scalp of Brian Lara.

However, his inability to take the last West Indies wicket in the crucial final over of the match would rankle the Indian for long.
