New Delhi: A 21-year-old student of the prestigious St Stephen's College allegedly committed suicide on Thursday by hanging herself in her east Delhi home, a day after her results were announced.
Upasana Sahu, final year student of Economics (Honours), was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her Kalyanpuri residence in the afternoon.
The police said Upasana 's mother, a teacher in a private school, found her hanging. She rushed Upasana to the Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Her father, who works with a law firm, said she might have killed herself due to poor performance in exams. The results were announced on Wednesday.
According to the police, in a three-page suicide note Upasana said she was solely responsible for taking her life as she was depressed with her performance.
In a separate incident, an 18-year-old Class 10 student allegedly took her life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her Vinod Nagar house, in nearby Mandawali area, late Wednesday.
The police said the girl, Priyanka, was depressed and undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
