NAMAKKAL: The indefinite strike by bulk LPG tanker operators, which entered its sixth day on Tuesday, has completely paralysed the movement of LPG from refineries to bottling plants. As Southern Region Bulk LPG Transport Ow-ners Association (SRBL-TOA) president M Ponnambalam put it, “We used to transport about 10,000 tonnes of LPG every day. Following the strike transportation of gas has come to a complete halt and about 60-,000 tonnes of gas remain at the refineries. The oil marketing companies might feel the he-at in a day or two once the stock dries out.”Reiterating the association’s stand that they would not settle for anything lesser than `2.80/km/tonne as transportation charges, he said, “We have communicated the resolution passed at our emergency general council meeting held on Monday. So far, we have not got any response from the representatives of the oil companies.”The SRBLTOA started its indefinite strike from the midnight of February 29. The bulk LPG tr-ansporters wanted the oil majors to finalise the tender agreement, with revised transportation charges. They have also sought deployment of 560 new tankers.Meanwhile, Federation of Lorry Owners Associations-TN have threatened to launch a stir if the LPG issue is not resolved in a day or two.
